The time it takes to clean gutters depends on the size of your property and the condition of your gutters. Generally, it takes a hour or so to complete the job.
Yes, clogged gutters can cause water damage to your property. The water can overflow and damage your roof, walls, and foundation. It can also cause mold and other harmful bacteria to grow.
If your gutters are leaking between the gutter and the fascia, it’s usually a sign of one (or more) of these common issues
1. Missing or improperly installed drip edge
The drip edge is metal flashing that directs water into the gutter.
If it’s missing or tucked behind the gutter instead of over it, water will run straight down the fascia instead of into the gutter.
2. Gutters pitched the wrong way
Gutters should slightly slope toward the downspout.
If they’re level or pitched backward, water pools and spills behind the gutter, soaking the fascia.
3. Clogged gutters or downspouts
When debris blocks water flow, it overflows backward first, right against the fascia board.
4. Gutters mounted too low
If the gutter sits too far below the roof edge, water shoots past it instead of dropping inside.
5. Fascia rot or soft wood
Rotting fascia can pull fasteners loose, causing gaps where water sneaks behind the gutter.
4. Heavy rain volume
Even a properly installed system can overshoot if it’s:
5. Gutter guards changing water flow
Some gutter guards cause water to roll across the surface instead of dropping straight into the gutter, especially during hard rain, leading to overshooting.
